About The Class
This primer course introduces the fundamentals and principles of contemporary Web design, interactive and motion design, these industries, and the current technologies used. The course will provide students with the basics of Web literacy, site and interactive development, information architecture, accessibility, wire frames, prototypes, web coding and scripting, visual design principals, and graphics and motion for the Web. This course is a required prerequisite for GCOM 361.
GCOM 360 is the first in a series of web design courses offered in the Graphic Communications department at Sacramento City College. This course serves as an overview of the professional web design process, from interpreting client input, to creating visual mock-ups. Although some technical topics will be included, this course will focus on the graphic design and communications skills needed prior to building websites. This is not a Dreamweaver course, or a coding course — it’s my goal as instructor to help students learn current best practices for designing for the web. To do this, its imperative that students understand and gain a command of the processes that go into effectively implementing designs online before beginning to build anything.
Please download the GCOM360_Fall14_syllabus_final.pdf and familiarize yourself with all of its content. The first page details schedule, books, course description and student learning outcomes. Pages 2 – 5 explains the flipped classroom / hybrid modality, GCOM department mission, class policies, assignments, grading structure, and other information.
